Zina Asante

Zina Asante is a Ghanaian creative and emerging healthcare leader driven by a deep passion for both healing and self-expression. Born in Accra and later continuing her education in the United States, Zina’s journey has been one of bridging worlds—between countries, between disciplines, and between science and art.

She holds a degree in Biological Neuroscience with a minor in General Management and is currently pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. Her academic path reflects her long-standing commitment to improving healthcare systems in under-resourced communities, particularly across Africa.

Zina’s hands-on research experience includes a 2.5-year cancer research internship through the YES for CURE program, where she worked at esteemed institutions like Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She also participated in the PEER→CELLS program, gaining in-depth training in biological lab techniques. As a member of URN (Underrepresented Groups in Neuroscience) and WISE (Women in Science at Emmanuel), Zina is proud to advocate for inclusivity in science and support the advancement of underrepresented voices in the field.

Professionally, she has worked as a medical assistant at Mass General Brigham Hospital and is currently contributing to Ghana’s evolving healthcare landscape through her work with Euracare, one of the country’s fast-growing hospital companies. Zina’s goal is to help shape healthcare systems that not only serve patients with dignity, but also prioritize the well-being and recognition of healthcare providers.

Beyond her scientific career, Zina is a naturally free-spirited visual artist. Creativity runs deep in her family, and for her, the act of creation is inseparable from the work of care. Her art and her science inform one another—both rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a desire to uplift others.

Since its founding, Zina has been part of the Black Star International Film Festival team, where she’s helped grow the volunteer program and deepen the festival’s creative impact. Her time with BSIFF has nurtured her as a young entrepreneur and expanded her understanding of what it means to build community through culture.

Now in her mid 20s, Zina is steadily laying the groundwork for a life that bridges worlds—between health and art, structure and spirit. Her dream is still unfolding, but her vision is clear: to lead with heart, create with purpose, and help build a more caring future for all.
