NICO ABOTE

Nico Abote is a seasoned media & communications strategist, award winning filmmaker, with over 20 years of experience spanning broadcast journalism, digital content, and strategic storytelling across Africa and North America.

Nico is the founder of Abote Media Consultancy Inc., where he supports clients with strategic communications, multimedia production, & brand storytelling. He has held senior editorial & production roles at Western Standard in Canada and ZTN in Zimbabwe, where he played a key role in content development,and studio infrastructure.

He is also the co-founder of several creative platforms under 263 Africa Media, including Play Afrika TV, a video-on-demand (VOD) platform showcasing African-inspired content, and My Afrika Magazine, a fresh and youth-driven digital publication powered by volunteer contributors and dedicated to “Telling our own African stories.” Both initiatives are rooted in shaping a positive and authentic narrative of Africa and its people.

He serves on several advisory boards, including LOUD Art Society (Canada) as the VP, Black Star International Film Festival (Ghana), Chengeto Africa (Southern Africa), and Zimbabwe Fashion Week, where he advises on business development strategies for the creative sector. He also holds the role of Head of PR & Media Advocacy at the Hunhu Council of Fashion, helping to elevate African fashion narratives through media and advocacy. Recently, he was part of the Jury at Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards (Fort McMurray, Canada).

A committed advocate for youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, Nico is a mentor with the Tony Elumelu Foundation and an advisor to various creative and community-based NGOs. His portfolio includes award-winning film and documentary work, stakeholder engagement campaigns, and public education initiatives.
